Kelli & Garrett

The Vision

Winter weddings can be tricky in Alaska in more ways than one: there are fewer venues available, weather can be tricky, and when it comes to florals? Limited seasonality is something to consider.

Kelli & Garrett hoped to incorporate retro and romantic vibes into their Talkeetna wedding to match their playful personalities. While the flowers brought the romance, the rest of the decor brought the funk. What a killer combo!

DESIGN aesthetic & INSPIRATION

  • Romantic retro
  • Late-winter glam
  • Sparkly & textural

Kelli really wanted to highlight her more romantic gown with a bouquet that featured traditionally romantic florals. A combination of garden roses, ranunculus, sweet pea, lilac, and draping jasmine was balanced by some more unique and funky elements like textural pink pieris japonica, checkboard-patteren fritillaria, and fluted double tulips. The bouquet was tied off with an elegant rose-toned silk ribbon dyed with natural botanicals.

Garrett's look was a bit more unique and hinted at the retro vibes the couple was hoping to feature. His deep burgundy suit and bolo tie were complimented by a textural boutonniere composed of the same checkboard-patterned fritillaria found in Kelli's bouquet, with some additional botanical elements to boot!

Personal Florals

With just their closest family members serving as their wedding party, we kept designs simple but made sure that each person had something that made them feel like a cherished part of the day.

Kelli's sister carried a petite version of Kelli's bouquet with a more upright shape and a simple ribbon wrap for a less dramatic effect.

Garrett's groomsman and the couple's fathers all wore boutonnieres that matched Garrett's perfectly in ingredients and size, allowing for a cohesive look amongst the men.

When it comes to hair florals, two of my favorite designs were requested: a simple and elegant hairpiece for Kelli's mom and an adorable, dainty crown for the flower girl!

Wedding Party

Despite limited space on the deck at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, Kelli & Garrett still hoped to have a small floral installation present for their ceremony.

Knowing that an arch or other more structural installation would likely occupy room that the couple otherwise hoped to use for seating, we opted for grounded arrangements to frame them and their officiant as they shared their vows. Highlighting the romantic blooms found in Kelli's bouquet, the design was dripping with a variety of roses, whimsical spirea, and textural greens.

Bursting with movement and color, these designs painted a stark contrast to the winter scene found from deck. Denali even surprised us all with a shrouded appearance!

Ceremony Florals

Dressed to the nines in furs and wool, guests were able to continue enjoying the unseasonably sunshine-filled day as they transitioned to the upper deck of the venue following the ceremony.

A luxurious, draping arrangement graced the bar with pops of lavender, peach, and muted pinks. Sweet pea and jasmine vine packed a punch with the fragrance of Spring. Whimsical budvases sat atop cocktail tables for guests to take in while sipping on the couple's signature libations.

Should guests become a little too chilled in the outdoor setting, there was no need to say "so long" to florals. Upon moving inside, all were greeted by a statement installation over the grand, dual-sided fireplace, with centerpieces resting in both lounges as well.

Perhaps the most unique florals of the day were reserved for Kelli & Garret's reception! The couple chose to completely deck out the long, banquet style tables in the venue's ballroom with continuous "living garlands."

These garlands sat directly on the tables themselves, grounded in place with moss and greenery. Florals appeared to dance in place above the table settings, offering an absolutely breathtaking display as the daylight faded and candlelight shone through.

Designs like this are so fun to create because they often involve strategic mechanics and detailed planning. The payoff is always so worth it and these creations made Kelli & Garrett's reception one-of-a-kind!
